We were privileged to hear and learn from four amazing Kaiako, Te Korou Whangataua, Corrin Merrick, Hēmi Kelly, and Te Urunga Winiata. Each focused on a different area from structuring sentences using a Māori world view, to the correct use of Te Reo in the law, kīwaha, translation issues, and everything in between.
The kura reo is held annually and caters for all levels of language learners – from those at the start of their journey to those who are already proficient. Perhaps my key takeway from this year’s kura can be summed up in the words of Tā Tīmoti Karetu “Kia Tika, Kia Rere, Kia Māori”.
E rere ana te reo whakamanawa ki ngā kaiako me ngā kaiwhakarite o te kura reo nei. E kore te puna maioha e mimiti.
